Environmental Partners

West Fork Boulder Field

Smarter Way LogoRoseburg has been accepted as a shipper/transport partner in the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership. The EPA partnership is a voluntary partnership between shippers and carriers to help increase awareness and efficiency of energy usage and reduce the carbon footprint created by manufacturers and their carrier partners. SmartWay partners are required to evaluate their environmental impact using a model that measures a company’s carbon footprint. The model takes into account whether a shipper uses SmartWay certified carriers, the extent of rail and intermodal transport, and equipment practices within the shipper’s own facilities. Roseburg’s score was well above the requirement.

Oregon Department of Fish and WildlifeRoseburg proactively participates in this plan directly and indirectly with our local watershed council and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife partners. We annually execute stream placement, riparian retention, road erosion control, fish passage and monitoring projects. The Roseburg investment value in this endeavor is $3 million spread over 700 projects.

Watershed Research CooperativeRoseburg is the founding member of this broadly supported industrial and non-industrial landowner, state agency, county government, and scientific community project. Starting with Hinkle Creek Paired Watershed Study and now expanded to include two other sister studies, the cooperative research is developing new knowledge to fill in the gaps on modern science based on forest management practices and their influence on fish and watershed quality at a watershed scale.
