Roseburg announces closure of Holly Hill MDF facility

Friday, October 17, 2008

Roseburg Forest Products announced today the scheduled closure of its Holly Hill, S.C. medium density fiberboard (MDF) manufacturing facility. According to Vice President of Composite Manufacturing Darrell Keeling, “Poor demand for our products, coupled with escalating raw material and energy costs have forced this unfortunate decision.” Keeling noted that the company will re-evaluate the closure in three to six months, reviewing its ability to re-start the facility.

The closure affects just over 100 employees, who are eligible to work in other RFP facilities and to apply for retraining benefits. “We understand that this action places a burden on our people, their families, and our community,” said Keeling. “We will do everything we can to help people with this transition.”

Built in 1974, the Holly Hill facility produces medium density fiberboard panels used for furniture, cabinetry and decorative molding. Customers include panel laminators, cabinet makers, major home improvement retailers and regional building products suppliers.
