Roseburg enters tentative agreement with West Oregon Wood Products to market Wood Fuel Pellets

Friday, April 18, 2008

Roseburg Forest Products announced today a tentative agreement with West Oregon Wood Products (WOWP) for marketing of wood fuel pellets. Roseburg expects to begin producing wood pellets at its Dillard, OR particleboard manufacturing facility in time for the 2008-09 home-heating season. The companies are targeting the Oregon and California home-heating markets.

“The addition of a pellet mill will give Roseburg the flexibility to substitute pellets for commodity particleboard production during the home heating season,” according to Roseburg Vice President of Composite Manufacturing Darrell Keeling. “We will put our wood fiber to the best use while continuing to serve our panel customers.” Roseburg will have initial capacity of 22,000 tons per year of the pellets, with the potential to expand production in the future.

“West Oregon Wood Products is looking forward to working with Roseburg Forest Products in a complementary relationship that will provide more efficient service to existing customers while expanding markets in the Oregon and California region,” stated WOWP President Chris Sharron. “We are fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such a fine and well-established company as Roseburg Forest Products.”

According to Keeling, the pellet operations will have minimal impact on employment at the Dillard facility. “Particleboard remains our primary product at the Dillard composite panel facility; the addition of the pellet business will allow us to stabilize our raw material supply,” he said.

West Oregon Wood Products is based in Columbia City, Ore. The company produces a variety of wood products, including commercial-grade sawdust, animal bedding, all-wood fire logs, and fuel and barbecue pellets.
