Roseburg CEO, Allyn Ford has announced that he plans to step aside as Chief Executive Officer, effective Sept. 1, 2016. Current company president, Grady Mulbery will become president and CEO at that time. Ford will remain a key part of the company in his role as chairman of Roseburg’s Board of Directors.
Allyn Ford, CEO and President of Roseburg Forest Products, announced today that the Ford Family and the Roseburg Board of Directors have chosen Grady Mulbery to assume the role of Roseburg’s President effective Jan. 1, 2016. Mr. Ford will continue in his role as CEO until Jan. 1, 2017, when he will retire.
Roseburg will unveil its latest thermally fused laminate (TFL) design collection this July at the 2015 Association of Woodworkers and Furnishing Suppliers (AWFS) Fair in Las Vegas. Roseburg’s 2015 Relevance Collection will be on display at booth #4441. The 2015 AWFS Fair is held July 22-25 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Forest Field Days are an educational opportunity for local students to learn more about forestry. This year, one of Roseburg's newest forest engineers, Ben Hainley, represented our organization at the event. Executives at Roseburg Forest Products announced today that they will be ready to start a phased ramp-up of production at their Weed, Calif., veneer facility beginning Monday, Oct. 13th. This date is well ahead of schedule of the earlier target date of Thanksgiving. However, the repairs to the entire mill will likely take until the first quarter of 2015.

Roseburg Forest Products’ veneer facility in Weed, Calif., was hit by the Boles Fire on Monday, Sept. 15, shortly after 1 p.m. All Roseburg employees were evacuated and are safe. There were no injuries. Although the main processing area and facility were not destroyed, a number of buildings on the complex were damaged.

Kati most recently held a position as a sales and accounting assistant at TMS, a call center here in Roseburg. Prior to TMS she worked as an assistant to the dean of career and technical education at Umpqua Community College. Kati brings with her a good foundation of office skills, customer service and account management.
The Composite Panel Association (CPA) recognized its 2013 Safety Award winners during the CPA Spring Meeting Chairman’s Dinner. Awards were given to participating manufacturing plants with exemplary safety records, including acknowledgments for long-term, annual, safety improvement, safety achievement and innovation.
Tom has an extensive background in transportation, most recently serving as director of logistics for Weyerhaeuser. Tom describes himself as a team facilitator focused on improving the organization. He earned his undergraduate degree at St. John’s University in New York and he has an MBA from Willamette University.
In March 2014 representatives from Roseburg attended an awards banquet hosted by Diamond Hill Plywood (DHP) where they accepted the 2013 Supplier of the Year award. An email from a DHP representative after the presentation reads: “Congratulations to you and your company on your big award. I hope you know how you won … you EARNED IT. Thank you for your support. Pass this on to all the Roseburg employees who make products that are second-to-none. Thank you.”
IWP is a closely-held wood products distribution company based in Salt Lake City, Utah, that opened in 1931. They have 10 locations in Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Utah and Washington. They are FSC chain-of-custody certified and Roseburg is their primary supplier of particleboard, thermally-fused laminate (TFL) and plywood.
Members of Roseburg’s Sales and Marketing Team attended the International Builders' Show (IBS) in Las Vegas in February 2014. This was the first year the IBS show was held in conjunction with the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) and combined attendance was estimated at 75,000. Roseburg displayed a new booth featuring large-sized samples of engineered wood, lumber, plywood and thermally-fused laminate panels. In addition, Roseburg also had a presence in the Professional Builder Show Village model home.
Chad joins the Composite Sales Team as a sales representative. Chad has been working for Roseburg on the Duramine TFL line in Dillard, Ore. Chad’s most recent work experience, prior to Roseburg, was casino management, but he has also worked for The Home Depot in Colorado in the flooring department and advanced to lead the freight department.

Blake has spent the last three years with Roseburg in Plywood Sales doing an excellent job of servicing and growing our business with many new and long-time Roseburg customers. Blake earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Western Oregon University and joins the Lumber Sales Team effective January 13, 2014.
Dave’s roots are in operations having started his career with US Plywood in manufacturing. Early on, he moved into product development and sales and marketing with US Plywood before they were purchased by Champion International. Dave’s career with Roseburg began in 2006 with the acquisition of Georgia-Pacific assets. Dave served as a national industrial account manager before taking the position in Oxford. Dave holds a bachelor’s degree in forest products manufacturing from Memphis State University.
Tom brings an extensive safety, loss control, workers’ compensation and industrial hygiene background to Roseburg. Most recently, he served as the business unit operations manager at CH2M HILL Constructors in Portland, Ore. In that role, he helped develop and deliver health and safety coverage and training to worksites throughout the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Continental United States. Prior to that, he also served in various safety-related leadership positions with Willamette Industries, Dames & Moore, and SAIF Corporation. Tom’s experience and expertise involve hands-on safety enhancement throughout each level of the organization. Tom holds a master’s degree in industrial hygiene from The University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Science in environmental health from Ferris State College. In addition, he is a certified industrial hygienist.
Started in 2009 by Union Grove Lumber, the North American Shed Show is held annually in Statesville, N.C., with the goal of providing shed builders the chance to learn more about the products available to the shed industry. This year the show was held Nov. 8, 2013 and more than 250 attendees were anticipated. It is interesting to note that the website for the show has a testimonials page which is full of great comments from customers about DuraTemp® and DuraTrim®.
Commenting on the announcement that Roseburg would be upgrading the forming line of the existing press at Missoula Composites, Vice President of Operations Grady Mulbery said, "The improvements we will be making at our Missoula facility will allow us to better meet the evolving needs of our customers, and solidify the long-term viability of the facility."
Roseburg Forest Products announced today that it will be making capital expenditures at the Dillard, OR sawmill that will allow it to utilize a broader range of fiber in its manufacturing process. Small-diameter logs commonly referred to in the business as “whips and tops” will be the target raw material for this project.
Rick Flores joins Roseburg on Oct. 1, 2013 and brings over 38 years of industry experience with him. For more than 20 of those years he has been directly responsible for mill sales management. Rick’s career has included significant time at Boise Cascade, Willamette Industries and Weyerhaeuser. He is familiar with both domestic and international markets in western and southern plywood.
As of Oct. 1, 2013 Nadine will be responsible for the management of the quality systems in place for Roseburg’s value-added lines at Dillard Composite Specialties (TFL, pre-finish, shelving and components). She will also work with sales and customers on color-matching paint and laminate, manage any quality issues in the field and coordinate the delivery of samples.
OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) recognize a select group of facilities that have designed and implemented outstanding health and safety programs, and work to be industry leaders in occupational safety and health. VPP Merit Award recipients are selected based on their written safety and health management system and ongoing performance. Roseburg’s Engineered Wood Products operation was granted this award by OSHA on October 1, 2013.
Twenty-seven years ago Roy began working at DCS as a laborer and quickly moved into positions of greater responsibility. He was promoted to supervisor in 1992 and in October 2013 is being promoted from his most recent position of general supervisor to plant superintendent.
A group from North American Wholesale Lumber Association (NAWLA) visited Roseburg this week. Attendees represented other forest product companies and are part of NAWLA’s Wood Basics Course, a four-day immersion class that includes both classroom training and field operations. The curriculum encompasses the entire spectrum of the forest products industry: from seed to tree, from production to sales.
Sixteen educators from nine of Oregon's Douglas County high schools visited Roseburg in September 2013 to meet with human resources staff and tour the Dillard Sawmill. According to Vice President of Human Resources and Labor Kellye Wise, “The objective is to familiarize them with the various employment opportunities that Roseburg offers graduating high school students, whether it be with a four-year degree, a technical community college degree, or simply starting work then pursing further education later.”
Joe Heard joins Roseburg as the plant manager for Simsboro Composites effective September 16, 2013. Joe earned a B.S. in wood science and technology from North Carolina State University and has worked in the wood products industry for over 25 years. During that time he has worked for Georgia Pacific, Temple-Inland, and Del-Tin MDF in many facets of operational management.
Simsboro Composites Shipping Supervisor, Bobby Dillard, was given the Patriotic Employer Award by the Louisiana National Guard “for contributing to national security and protecting liberty and freedom by supporting employee participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Force.” Bobby was nominated for the award by one of his employees in the Shipping Department, James Hyatt. James is a staff sergeant in the Army National Guard and was deployed to Kuwait in mid-August. James is a car checker in Roseburg’s Simsboro Composites Shipping Department. He is a 16-year veteran and this is his third deployment overseas (two times in Afghanistan). Along with his overseas deployments, James has also been deployed several times to respond to hurricane relief, such as Hurricane Katrina.
Mark Avery holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He has worked in wood products for 18 years. Mark joined Roseburg in September 2011 as the plant manager in Simsboro, La. He has been instrumental in leading the implementation of Roseburg’s composite restructuring in our Southeast region. His office will continue to remain in Simsboro
Darrin has worked in the wood products industry for 22 years, starting with Willamette MDF in Bennettsville, S.C. He assisted with the start-up of the particleboard lines in Bennettsville and Simsboro in the early 2000’s. In 2005 he was promoted to production manager for Weyerhaeuser in Bennettsville and moved to Simsboro in 2007 with Flakeboard to take on the same role here. Darrin’s promotion to operations manager takes effect Sept. 1, 2013.
The Sierra Cascade Logging Conference invited local students to a logging demonstration on May 8 and 9. The students were given an overview of the history of logging and were able to observe the complete operation of a mechanical logging operation from falling trees to loading logging trucks.
On April 29, Wildlife Biologist Rich Klug spoke to Shasta Valley land owners, biomass opponents and Shasta Valley Resource Conservation District (RCD) employees at a workshop on local biomass projects for private forestland owners. The workshop was sponsored by The Rainbow Ridge Forest Stewardship Project and the Siskiyou Land Trust.
Engineered Wood Products National Sales Manager Mike McCollum spoke at the International Wood Composites Symposium in Seattle, Wash., in early April. The presentation was titled “Engineered Wood Products continued impact on the wood product industry.” The symposium was attended by most of the major manufacturers, including Weyerhaeuser, Boise Cascade, Louisiana Pacific (LP), Roseburg, Pacific Wood Tech, West Frasier, Tolko and Georgia Pacific (GP).
Manager Sales Service – West Jeff Lundegard represented Roseburg Forest Products’ Dillard composite facility at the 2013 Cal Closet annual meeting in Orlando, Fla. The convention is Cal Closets’ annual gathering with their franchise owners and the designers on staff from the various franchise locations in North America.
Roseburg Forest Products has recruited many great employees through our ongoing relationship with Oregon State University (OSU). Participation in the classroom is one of many outreach efforts that Roseburg does with the school which allows us to contribute to the Renewable Materials program as well as gain exposure to top talent for future team opportunities.
We are pleased to announce the addition of Bill Ingham to the EWP sales team as our EWP Territory Sales Manager (TSM) for the Northeast territory. Bill is a sales professional with years of experience in the lumber and EWP business and is very knowledgeable in all aspects of the business.
